How many times has it happened to you; late for an appointment, or shopping at the local quick mart when you reach for your wallet only to realize that you need some cash? Fortunately for you, there is an automated bank machine standing nearby ready to help you out of your dilemma.

What you don’t know is that by merely sliding your debit bankcard into the automated cash machine slot, a savvy criminal may have just stolen your valuable personal banking information. Seems unrealistic, think again.

Many people wrongly assume that debit bankcards offer the same protection as credit cards. In fact, when a debit card is stolen, or copied, there’s usually no grace period offered by your the financial institution while you grieve the unauthorized transaction. In most cases, your funds have been taken without you knowing it, which is until the next time it’s used. To add insult to injury, if you have an overdraft assignment attached to the account, this to will be taken, and you could face overdraft charges that your bank isn’t required to pay.
