The Risks Involved When Logging onto Your Financial Institution from Your Office Computer!
So, you think your privacy, and that of your company’s is secure when connecting to the internet from your office computer? Think again!
Key logging devices, maliciously installed on office computers, including hand held electronic devices, without the users knowledge can provide unscrupulous individuals with a wealth of information. Take a look at the video below for example:
In the world of corporate espionage, all electronic devices are susceptible to attack. The question that begs to be answered is; what controls are in place to thwart access to these electronic devices, while you’re away from your desk. For example, if you receive a telephone call from an unknown person representing a financial institution and or corporate competitor, before accessing your computer as directed, tell the caller you’ll call them back when you have time. Due diligence should come into play here, and a call placed to the financial institution and or competitor to check if the story told was indeed true.
On a final note, as we can see from the video, common sense must be used when dealing with unusual circumstances requesting sensitive information housed on your computers.

One thing I often find people are not aware of, are the social engineering aspects of garnering data from people. In this case the video is a good example of people being fooled into providing sensitive information, unknowingly.
